A new Water Heater Dam that makes installation of the exclusive WAGS (Water and Gas Safety Shut-Off) Valve faster, more convenient and economical in retrofit installations of all kinds, has been introduced by Taco, Inc.
The WAGS Water Heater Dam eliminates the need to drain and move the water heater when installing the WAGS Valve on a water heater that is already in service. The dam is designed to create a barrier in which leaking water from a failed water heater can accumulate to the minimum 7/8” level required to activate the WAGS valve.
When activated, WAGS automatically shuts off the water supply—and gas supply on gas-fired units--reducing or eliminating potential water damage as a result of the leak.
By removing the need to drain or move the water heater to position a pan under the unit, the new WAGS Water Heater Dam greatly improves the speed and economy of retrofit installations.
The WAGS Water Heater Dam is intended for residential and commercial applications. It can be used with any style water heater—gas, electric, oil, etc.—and on any style flooring surface that does not have gaps or cracks greater than 3/8” that would allow the water to leak under the dam. The dam can easily be customized to fit any tank diameter and the surrounding installation area.
Taco designed the WAGS Valve to address the common problem of water heater failure—the average water heater lasts only 7 - 10 years --and reduce or eliminate the property damage that can result from these failures. When a leak goes undetected the tank keeps filling and water pressure can enlarge the leak, releasing potentially thousands of gallons of water into the home or business. More than 5 million water heaters fail each year, causing untold millions of dollars in damage in the U.S. each year.
The WAGS Valve has proven so effective in preventing such damage that Taco offers a $1,000 lifetime protection policy to owners in the event that a properly-installed WAGS Valve fails to detect a leak and subsequently shut off the water feed.
